I am a healer, a teacher and I am highly empathetic. I am passionate about understanding the world from many perspectives. I've spent thousands of hours (over 20 years) learning and teaching yoga, meditation and exploring consciousness, easing tensions of the mind and body. Working with countless students and clients applying hands on techniques to assist the body to overcome limitations, heal pain and dis-ease.
I have a natural gift called Mirror-Touch Synesthesia a rare form of empathy that allows me to feel the physical pain of others. I've heard from my clients more times than I can count "How did you know that hurt?" or "How did you know to work on that?" or "You always find the exact spot that hurts". This ability gives added insight not only into the pain my clients are experiencing but allows me to track and trace its connections by feeling it in my own body.
I am a Mother of two awesome kids. I used to say my home was my dojo, being at home with 2 small children requires a level of focus and care beyond the self that I'm not sure anything else could provide. It taught me how to have resilience and how to find peace inside when most days I was struggling to handle the demands of motherhood. It's been my greatest challenge and my greatest pride.
I don't like dwelling on sad stories so I'll say this, I've faced a lot of darkness in my life and what I've learned is that it's in our darkness that we have a chance to grow, our pain can be our gift. Often we don't change until the pain of making the change becomes less than the pain of staying the same. Perspective can change everything and Ortho-Bionomy has shown me how to see and interact with the body as an alliance not as something to conquer.
Ortho-Bionomy found me by way of a very good friend who found it on her visit to Australia. I had already been studying Somatic Bodywork in California and was seeking answers for how to work with the body to release tension and pain. When I learned about Ortho-Bionomy, I realized it was the approach I had been looking for. Instinctively I knew there was a way to heal through a softer approach. Over my years in professional practice I've witnessed how we all hold tension and often in similar areas but we all hold tension in a slightly different way.
Our experiences, thoughts and emotions shape the body, the body holds our story. Often when I am working with traumatic injuries the body will actually start to show me what occurred during the trauma. The body nearly begs for the story to be unraveled so it can find its way back to balance. Most of my clients become so relaxed on the table getting up after is the hardest part of the whole treatment. Many of my clients have described my work as magic, they tell me "I don't really know what you're doing but I know I feel better after you do it". While I assure you it is not magic but rather a set of tools and philosophies applied to the body that allow the body to release new or long held tension and pain. Somatic Bodywork is a relatively new field of healing and Ortho-Bionomy is the best treatment system I have found.
In the summer of 2019 I unexpectedly was given the opportunity to bring Ortho-Bionomy into a mainstream medical clinic. How? Simply, because it works. I never imagined I would find myself in this type of setting but it is a testament to the value of this work. As one of my colleagues said "Liv, the proof is in the pudding", meaning they didn't need to understand it completely they just see that it is helping people. Our western medical world is slowly opening up to new ideas and new ways of thinking especially when it comes to healing the body and mind as one. I am so grateful to be working to push this field forward and providing more options for those struggling with new or chronic pain, stress or anxiety. I also have had the gift to work with other practitioners of well known therapies like Chiropractic, Physio, Psychology and Acupuncture; Ortho-Bionomy is showing to be a beneficial add on to any of these therapies, or a therapy that can stand on it's own as well.
Since joining the clinic I have began offering and integrating Lymphatic Drainage Therapy into my practice. It is a natural addition to Ortho-Bionomy and an unbelievable therapy on it's own. I've already seen how it helps the body to heal faster, reduce inflammation and much more. This therapy is becoming mainstream as more and more experience it's benefits.
